TL;DR
Using Twitch as a sign-in solution costs too much and will be removed at the end of the September. Other sign-in solutions will be made available instead. Twitch will still be available to show as a social link.
Hello party people!
Without going into too much technical detail, with the backend solution that Palia Party uses, it simply costs too much to support Twitch as a sign-in provider. At the end of the September Twitch sign-in will be removed. However, Twitch integration isn't completely being removed. But more on that later. First, a bit of backstory of why Twitch sign-in was introduced in the first place.
Twitch sign-in was initially introduced to solve two problems:
The reason why the most popular sign-in providers (e.g. Facebook, Google, etc) wasn't introduced from the start, was because many users use those services with real life names, and want to remain anonymous online.
As of today, users will have access to new sign-in with providers (Facebook, Google, Twitter/X). Additionally, a number of dedicated social links (Twitch, Discord) will also be introduced on the user's new public profile (along with some other new features!). This allows the user to keep their real-life information hidden and only show their social links.
Q: Can I still access my Twitch connected account after the end of September, even if I haven't connected my account with another provider?
A: Yes! The only caveat is that the emails of the Twitch account and the new sign-in provider's email need to match each other.
